Laser scanning and 3D model of a residential building in Talsi

The building is located in the historical centre of Talsi and is a state-protected cultural monument. The Territorial Use and Building Regulations of the Talsi Municipality state that Church Square is one of the streets in Talsi whose stone pavement must be preserved.

According to the Talsi Regional Museum, the building was built in the 18th century and has Baroque forms - a gabled roof with half-hipped ends, moulded eaves and an impressive mantelpiece in the centre of the building. The building also has Classical hexagonal windows and a representative entrance portal with a skylight above.

When the building belonged to the barons of the manor, it housed a church inn, as the building was located in an important social and economic centre, where the most prominent citizens and merchants circulated. In 1879, the building was partly destroyed by fire.

The building was called the "Black Rooster" or Herzberg's House because since 1905 it was owned by Wulf Herzberg, later also his heir. During this time, the house was a Hotel, an iron and steel merchant, and the lower floor was used for church services. During the Soviet period, the building was nationalized and apartments were managed by the Talsi City Housing Administration.

The Latvijasmernieks.lv team took part in the laser scanning of the building in 2023 and created a 3D model and 2D-floor plans in 2024 to help preserve and restore this historically significant site.
